F-35 Lightning II - Discussione Ufficiale

Messaggi raccomandati

Though F-35 program officials have been talking about hitting a then-year unit cost of $85 million by 2019, the new goal is $80 million by 2020 - and that may not be the bottom, said Program Executive Officer Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan.
Speaking at a McAleese/Credit Suisse conference in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Bogdan said there’s “still a lot we can do” to lower the unit cost of the F-35.
Much of that will come with block buys and multi-year procurement, which will “stabilize the buy” and allow contractors to buy materials at economic order quantities, he said.
Lots 11-13 will be negotiated as a single contract, covering 440 airplanes, and that, too, will allow volume discounts.

"Come siamo riusciti a fargli cambiare idea" ... Bogdan racconta ...

Dal Daily Report dell'AFA ...

How Trump Was Sold on the F-35 ...
John A. Tirpak (3/24/2017)
How did the F-35 program turn around the opinion of President Donald Trump, who before his inauguration said the program was too expensive and “out of control” but recently has spoken of it favorably?
“What I think came out” of several discussions with the President, was “his desire to learn more about the program, which is good,” and “to get good value” from the program, said program executive officer Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan at a McAleese/Credit Suisse conference Wednesday.
“We got a chance to address some of the misperceptions” that Trump seems to have retained from early in the program, when it was having serious trouble.
A lot of which continue to be related by critics as recent news.
“Given that opportunity, we were able to explain the importance” of the F-35, Bogdan related.
Tradotto in italiano (dialettale) ... "Oh, oh, oh! L'avemo 'mbottijato. Oh, oh, oh!" ...

E se la Polonia acquistasse gli F-35 ?

The Polish Ministry of Defence is considering the purchase of new F-35 Lightning II fighters or a newer version of the F-16 jets to upgrade the country’s Air Force, according to Polish Deputy Defence Minister Bartosz Kownacki.
Kownacki told members of the Polish parliamentary defense committee that an earlier plan to acquire used F-16A/B aircraft from an ally was scrapped because of the substantial costs that would be related to upgrading the fighter jets.

Bogdan promette ... capacità missilistica incrementata ...

The F-35 program office is looking at adding capacity for another AIM-120 AMRAAM radar-guided air-to-air missile in each of the jet’s two weapons bays, increasing internal - and thus stealthy - missile loadout by 50 percent, program director Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan said March 22.
Speaking with reporters after his speech at a McAleese/Credit Suisse conference in Washington, D.C., Bogdan said, “There is potential … to add a third missile on each side.”

To Be Determined ... :o:wacko:

Two of the US Air Force’s premier fifth-generation fighters, the Lockheed Martin F-35A Joint Strike Fighter Lightning II and F-22A Raptor, still can’t transmit data back and forth but the service’s plan to fix the communication gap is undetermined.
Today, the F-22’s Link 16 network can only receive data from the F-35.
The JSF can both transmit and receive data with other Link 16 legacy aircraft including F-16, F-15 and other NATO aircraft, Brig Gen Scott Pleus, director of the F-35 Integration office tells FlightGlobal.
The F-35 would not receive F-22 data until a fourth to fifth generation gateway is deployed, but the timeline on that gateway is undecided, the service tells FlightGlobal.
The USAF has plans for fourth to fifth-generation communications, which would cover the F-22’s Link 16 radio, but they’re not yet programmes of record.

Earlier this year, Lockheed also addressed a flutter issue that affected the aircraft’s ability to carry the sidewinder missile. A redesign of the outboard wing panel beefed up a rib and spar to take some of the loads at the weapon attach points, Gigliotti says. Lockheed will retrofit existing F-35Cs with the improved panels beginning in August and ending by early 2019. Depending on the number of aircraft in the developmental fleet, Lockheed could retrofit about 30 jets, he says.

Lockheed recently completed tests at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland and determined that the aircraft did not require a new nose gear. Gigliotti says the holdback bar behind the nose gear has been detuned to a lower release which results in slightly less strut compression on the initial catapult release.

Marillyn Hewson ... AD di LM ... parla del Presidente ... :adorazione:

What’s your impression of President Donald Trump?
I’ve been impressed with him — how engaged he’s been since day one.
Even before he got into the White House, he hit the ground running.
I’m impressed with the fact he wants to get things done.
It’s all about job creation, economic growth, increasing defense spending.
My interactions have been very positive and constructive; he’s a good listener.
He cares about making a difference in economic growth.
From the defense industry’s standpoint, he recognizes we do need to increase national security spending.
But he wants to do it using taxpayers’ money wisely.
We’re right in line with that.
We want to provide the best capability to men and women in uniform, but at the same time we want to provide it at the most affordable price.
We’re constantly looking at affordability and bringing costs down.

Pentagono ... è caccia ai risparmi ...

The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin Corp could shave at least 5 percent off the price of stealthy F-35 fighter jets in their upcoming annual purchase contract as the standard version of the plane heads toward a price of below $80 million, people familiar with the talks told Reuters.
The Pentagon, under the direction of Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, has been exploring how to cut the costs of its most expensive weapons program.
The deal for last year's annual purchase contract, struck this February, put the standard takeoff and landing version of the jet at the lowest price ever, $94.6 million, a 7.3 percent reduction from the previous annual purchase price of $102 million.
The current negotiations are for a batch of about 130 planes.
The talks could shave 5-7 percent, or $660 million, from the approximately 100 standard takeoff and landing "A-model" jets for the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. allies, the people said.

The Air Force’s F-35A is deploying internationally for the first time this weekend, heading to Europe to conduct training exercises with NATO allies, the Pentagon announced Friday.
The Defense Department offered sparse details about the event, which will involve deploying a “small number” of F-35As from the 388th Fighter Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah to an undisclosed location in Europe.
The joint strike fighters will take off sometime this weekend.
After landing, they will then spend several weeks in the region as part of the European Reassurance Initiative, the department’s effort to strengthen military ties with European allies to help deter Russian aggression on the continent.

A Trump ... l'ardua sentenza ... ;)
