Has China’s Y-20 Flown Yet? http://blogs.defensenews.com/intercepts/2013/01/has-chinas-y-20-flown-yet/

It appears that speculation that China’s Y-20 heavy lift military transport will conduct its first flight this year could be wrong. Based on photographs provided courtesy of Virginia-based GeoEye, taken December 25, 2012, by GeoEye’s IKONOS satellite, and taken on January 1, 2013, by GeoEye-1, the new cargo transport appears to be ruling the tarmac at Yanliang Airbase. Though the photographs do not show it taxing or flying, its location on the tarmac suggests it could have already been test flown. Defense News profiled new photos of the aircraft from Chinese websites on this blog on December 12.

Miracoli cinesi ....

E' in grado di compiere il giro del mondo con un solo pieno di carburante ....

The Y-20 flew took off from its development base near the northwestern city of Xi'an on Saturday, the China Daily and other newspapers reported Monday.
The plane can fly 44,000 kilometers (27,300 miles) with 66 tons of freight, and is designed to fill the need for a stronger, long-range heavy lift capacity.

La Cina è fiduciosa sulle possibilità di esportazione ....

China sees export potential for Y-20 ....

China sees an opportunity to export the Xian Y-20 strategic transport, with a number of variants planned.

The remarks about the aircraft's overseas potential were reportedly made by Tang Jun, chairman of Xian Aircraft, which has produced a prototype of China's largest indigenously produced airlifter to date.

Will Y-20 have indigenous engine for 2017 service entry? ....

After yesterday's China Daily story quoting Xian Y-20 design chief Tang Jun (also spelled Tang Changhong) about the type's export potential, the Ministry of National Defence has published another China Daily story based on his comments.

The exuberant headline says it all: "Confidence sky-high over jumbo cargo plane."

Questo mastodonte Cino, assomoglia parecchio al Kawasaky C-2 del Giappone

La versione finale del Avic Y-20 con i nuovi motori WS-20 dovrebbe rimanere così

Un nuovo turbofan per il cargo militare Y-20?

Photos have appeared on Chinese websites of an Ilyushin Il-76 testbed fitted with a large high-bypass-ratio turbofan under the port inner pylon.

The engine is believed to be the WS-20 (also reported as WS-118), which is under development as a possible powerplant for the Xian Y-20 airlifter.

Flight tests of Xian Y-20 proceeding well ....

Flight tests of China’s Xian Y-20 transport aircraft are proceeding well, with the designer of the type claiming the aircraft has “set new records” for China.

In an interview with China Military Online published on the web site of China’s defence ministry (*), Y-20 designer Tang Chonghong says the commissioning date of the aircraft is confidential, but that test pilots for the Y-20 programme are undergoing training.
