Model 94 Tankette "TK"

 

Model 94 Tankette had a codename, "TK", which means "Tokushu (Special) Ken-in sha (Tractor)". The TK's true purpose was to pull the supply/toxic gas/bleaching powder (to counteract toxins) trailer. In the late 1920's, the Japanese purchased six British Carden-Loyd Mark machine-gun carriers, and two Mark Vlb carriers for testing. As a result of trials the Japanese decided to develop a small vehicle in Japan based on what was learned. The prototype was built in 1933-34 by the Tokyo Gas and Electric Industry (later known as Hino Motors) and after trials in both China and Japan it was standardized as the Type 94 tankette. Oddly, American sources have always referred to it as the Type 92 tankette.

AVRE - Armoured Vehicle, Royal Engineers was a Churchill tank adapted to attack German defensive fortifications. The crew included two Royal Engineers who could easily leave and enter the tank through its side hatches. The AVRE had the main gun replaced by a Petard Spigot Mortar. This fired a forty pound (18 kg) HE-filled projectile (nicknamed the Flying Dustbin) 150 yards (137 m). The "Dustbin" could destroy concrete obstacles such as roadblocks and bunkers. This weapon was unusual in that it had to be reloaded externally - by opening a hatch and sliding a round into the mortar tube from the hull. AVREs were also used to carry and operate equipment such as:

Bobbin - A reel of 10-foot (3.0 m) wide canvas cloth reinforced with steel poles carried in front of the tank and unrolled onto the ground to form a "path", so that following vehicles (and itself) would not sink into the soft ground of the beaches during the amphibious landing.

Fascine - A bundle of wooden poles or rough brushwood lashed together with wires carried in front of the tank that could be released to fill a ditch or form a step. Metal pipes in the center of the fascine allowed water to flow through.

Small Box Girder was an assault bridge that was carried in front of the tank and could be dropped to span a 30-foot (9.1 m) gap in 30 seconds.

Bullshorn Plough. A mine plough intended to excavate the ground in front of the tank, to expose and make harmless any land mines.

Double Onion two large demolition charges on a metal frame that could be placed against a concrete wall and then detonated from a safe distance. It was the successor to the single charge device Carrot.

The Schofield

 

 

 

 

Named after it's designer, E.J.Schofield of General Motors Wellington. In 1940 New Zealand was in much the same situation as Australia in that they were unlikely to get any armored vehicles from the U.K.and so had to look to themselves. The only true New Zealand tank to reach prototype stage, and was based on the chassis of the GM 6 cwt truck, and suspension units from a Universal Carrier. Armor plate for the hull and turret was produced New Zealand Railways at Hull Valley Works. The turret was open topped and mounted a 2 pdr gun and co-axial Besa MG. The truck wheels shares common stub axles with the drive sprockets and idlers , and the change from wheels to tracks was affected by pivoted arms operated from the hull rear. When operating on wheels the track had minimum ground clearance and were kept clear of the ground with chains. The Schofield tank was completed in August 1940 , but production was never started. Then in mid 1943 the tank was shipped to Britain for evaluation tests, and remained in Britain until after the war were it was last seen , the exact circumstances of it's fate is unknown but was probably scrapped soon after the war.

In realtà non è proprio un tank ma possiede i cingoli per "camminare" sul fondo della pozzanghera in cui è immerso...

si chiama "Seeteufel"(sea devil) e venne costruito nel 1944.

Con la sua lunghezza di circa 14 m e il peso di 35 ton poteva immergersi fino a 21 m ad una velocità di 8 nodi!

La propulsione mediante viti è stata sperimentata in parecchi paesi USA Giappone Germania ma pare che solo i sovietici abbiano apprezzato questo tipo di tecnologia visto che hanno costruito molti prototipi e alcuni di essi hanno raggiunto la produzione di massa sebbene sempre in serie ridotte.

Ma poi non risulta funzionale solo in presenza di un fondo con un certo grado di cedevolezza?Quali sarebbero i vantaggi di questo tipo di propulsione?

Il Zil è conoscito con moltissimi nomi. Tutti generalmente di paesi siberiani.

 

È nato con lo specifico scopo di muoversi in ambienti con fondo cedevole e non compatto. Acquitrini, neve, fondo misto. Per la sua natura, i cilindri gli permettono una spinta positiva che gli consente anche di navigare.

Nell’ex armata rossa, era distribuito alle formazioni logistiche di riserva e ai reggimenti pontieri. Non so, se nello specifico il mezzo indicato (nome e matricola), ma sicuramente uno con la stessa concezione di movimento e scopo.

Generalmente era trasportato su carro ponte e deposto nelle vicinanze dove doveva operare.

 

In Romania a Botosani, nel grande deposito logistico vi è un mezzo (forse ancora operativo). Mi sembra di ricordare che forse è stato utilizzato l’ultima volta durante una alluvione 2-3 anni or sono. In Bulgaria a … se ne possono scorgere i resti di almeno due mezzi. Tutti comunque, residuati dell’ex armata russa.

Ne studiarono uno anche gli americani per l'impiego in Nam, ma non credo abbia avuto seguito. Quello che ho postato io era tedesco, in base alla didascalia almeno. Dovrebbe essere l'avo di tutti gli altri di cui parlate, quello americano compreso.

Non è un tank, è solo una moto, ricordo di averla vista la prima volta nei fumetti che leggevo da ragazzino. L'ho ritrovata per caso in rete, senza indicazione di nome o altro, solo che è tedesca. Qualcuno (butto lì un nome a caso, Blue Sky) ha informazioni in più?

1915 Sizaire-Berwick "Wind Wagon"

 

 

The "Wind Wagon" was a 1915 Admiralty experiment. R.N.A.S. squadrons were being withdrawn from the Western Front and sent to Africa and the Near East, where the terrain wasn't suited to conventional cars. Only one was made, and it was only tested in England.

Seabrook Armored Car

 

 

Using a US 5 ton truck chassis, the Admiralty Air Department of the Royal Navy designed a heavy armored car that was intended to back up the machine gun armed vehicles that had been deployed to Belgium at the start of WW1. The vehicle had more of the appearance of a land based patrol boat than that of an armored car.
