Mi chiedevo nel frattempo che fine avesse fatto il requisito tedesco di rimpiazzo dei vecchi CH-53...

A quanto pare ci sono stati strascichi legali e l'Alta Corte Regionale di Dusseldorf ha dichiarato illegittimo l'azzeramento del programma deciso l'anno scorso per sforamento dei costi.

La decisione comunque è stata presa e in ogni caso i due contendenti (Boeing e Sikorsky) sono in lizza...senza costose modifichine richieste inizialmente dal cliente...

The US Marine Corps (USMC) has contracted Lockheed Martin company Sikorsky to build nine more CH-53K King Stallion heavy-lift helicopters.
The additional units fall under the USMC’s 200 aircraft Program of Record.
The company will use its digital build and advanced technology production processes to manufacture the aircraft at a lower unit price than previous lots.

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, built four System Demonstration Test Article CH-53K helicopters and delivered them to the Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1), in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to support the seven-month evaluation, which concluded in March.
“The performance of these intelligent aircraft during Marine-operated flight tests displays the CH‑53K’s operational effectiveness and ensures it will support Marines at the forefront of combat capability and heavy lift for decades to come,” said Bill Falk, Sikorsky’s CH-53K program director. 
“The CH‑53K delivers greater lift and endurance capabilities over the legacy aircraft. Its fly-by-wire system reduces pilot workload and enhances the ability to refuel in midair, which is critical to expanding the Marine Corps operational flexibility across all U.S. and allied military services, making the CH-53K a powerful asset for the Marines evolving missions.”

Fiscal 2022 aircraft procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $185,694,050 will be obligated at the time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, delivered the third Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) CH-53K helicopter ahead of contract schedule to the U.S. Marine Corps. 
This aircraft, built in Sikorsky’s digital factory, is the first CH-53K from the Lot 2 LRIP contract awarded by the U.S. Navy in 2019, and the seventh overall delivered to the fleet.  
The CH‑53K’s heavy-lift capabilities exceed all other U.S. Department of Defense rotary wing platforms and is the only heavy-lift helicopter that will remain in production through 2032 and beyond.
This CH-53K heavy lift helicopter joins the six in operation at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina. 
The CH-53K is the only sea-based, long range, heavy lift helicopter in production and will immediately provide three times the lift capability of its predecessor.

Late last year the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion helicopter demonstrated a key capability by lifting a Lockheed Martin F-35C fighter jet, the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command has announced. 
This was an important test in the type’s external load certification campaign.
The lift was conducted on December 13 at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, by a CH-53K from Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) One. 
The fighter in question was aircraft “CF-1”: the first developmental example of the F-35C.
The test involved VMX-1, the F-35 Integrated Test Force, the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division’s Cargo Lab, and other organizations such as the helicopter support team from the Marine Corps’ Combat Logistics Battalion 24. 
As well as basic load certification testing, the lift enabled sling configuration analysis and cargo characteristics documentation. 
The flight trial was preceded by ground lift tests performed using a crane to verify the various attitudes of the F-35 while under the sling.

The CH-53K King Stallion completed five full days and nights of envelope expansion testing at sea in the Atlantic last month. 
The aircraft continued testing in a modern naval environment following initial successful sea trials in June, 2020.
A diverse team of 105 personnel from Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Two One (HX-21), H-53 Heavy Lift Helicopters Program Office (PMA-261), Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 (HMH-461), Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1), and Sikorsky pilots, engineers, technicians and maintainers successfully accomplished this second set of sea trials for the CH-53K. 
Sea trial testing took place aboard the USS Arlington, a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock (LPD24), operated by the U.S. Navy. 
“The latest sea trials were another great success for the CH-53K program,” said Col. Kate Fleeger, PMA-261 program manager. 
“Data analysis has shown a greater CH-53K LPD launch and recovery envelope than that of the CH-53E.”

I Marines hanno consegnato carburante da un elicottero tradizionale con equipaggio a un elicottero autonomo senza equipaggio nel Luglio scorso per la prima volta nella storia del Marine Corps o dell'US Navy.
Durante un'esercitazione a Twentynine Palms, in California, un CH-53E Super Stallion dei Marines ha fornito carburante a un MQ-8C Fire Scout senza equipaggio dell'US Navy, come un modo per estendere la portata di quest'ultimo velivolo, ha riferito, Giovedì scorso, il Marine Corps.
Il 31 Luglio scorso, il pesante Super Stallion ha trasferito circa 700 libbre di carburante al Fire Scout, appena sotto il carico utile massimo del velivolo senza equipaggio, secondo quanto riferito.

In Ottobre, una squadra guidata dai Marines ha recuperato ciò che restava di un elicottero della Marina che aveva subito un duro atterraggio durante una missione di salvataggio sulle montagne della California.
Il massiccio sforzo di recupero dell'MH-60S Seahawk da un terreno difficile nella foresta nazionale di Inyo, in California, ha coinvolto circa 40 Marines e marinai, nonché personale - e muli - del Servizio Forestale, secondo i leader dello squadrone di elicotteri dei Marines che hanno guidato la missione.
