lender Posted June 25, 2008 Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) Dalla fine degli anni ’60 gli USA iniziarono un programma di valutazione sugli aerei di fabbricazione sovietica acquisiti tramite diserzioni o da paesi amici come Israele e successivamente l’Egitto. Nel gennaio 1968 ebbe inizio il programma HAVE DOUGHNUT, congiunto tra USAF/Navy, relativo ad Mig-21F-13, presso la famosa Area-51 al Groom Lake, in Nevada. Nel gennaio 1969 iniziò il progetto HAVE DRILL/HAVE FERRY per la valutazione di due MiG-17F. Queste esperienze con il programma HAVE IDEA, nel 1973 e in seguito fu attivato, nel luglio 1973 il 4477th TEF noto come “Red Eagles” presso la Nellis Air Force Base. Nel dicembre 1977 fu attivato il 6513th Test Squadron “Red Hats” presso la Edwards Air Force Baset. Nel maggio 1980 il 4477th TEF “Red Eagles” fu portato allo status di squadron come “4477th Test and Evaluation Squadron”. Il programma fu nuovamente rinominato come “CONSTANT PEG”, comprendendo vere e proprie esercitazioni di combattimento sotto forma di aggressor, e lo sqauadron fu basato al Tonopah Test Range. L’esistenza del programma era strettamente classificata, a coloro che partecipavano alle esercitazioni non era consentito di rivelare l’esistenza dei mig “americani”. Lo squadron Red Eagles aveva tipicamente 16 piloti, di provenienza mista tra aviazione e marina. Tali piloti dovevano volare su aerei senza addestramento specifico e manuali, e anche la manutenzione era estremamente difficoltosa. Il programma fu dismesso alla fine della guerra fredda. Red Eagles: The USAF's Cold War Secret Squadon (General Military) When two Navy F-14 Tomcats engaged and shot down two Sukhoi Su-22 jet fighters in 1981, they drew on experience and tactics that they had learned from a previous encounter with Russian-made MiG jet fighters. The difference between the two encounters was that in the first, the enemy fighters were flown by American pilots assigned to a top secret squadron hidden at a remote airfield in the ultra-secret Tonopah Nuclear Test range, Nevada. In the second, the Sukhoi fighters were flown by Libyan pilots attempting to enforce Colonel Qadaffi's 'Line of Death' over the Gulf of Sidra. In all, more than 1,600 American fighter pilots would train against America's secret MiGs between 1974 and 1989. The squadron of MiGs - the 4477th Test and Evaluation Squadron - was perhaps the single most important US Air Force unit in the Cold War; not just because it operated clandestinely acquired MiGs, but because it took the concept of an Aggressor training force to the ultimate in fidelity. It allowed American pilots to validate their tactics and techniques, and many of these men went on to apply them to great advantage in real combat situations. Declassified in winter 2006, some 17 years after the unit flew its last sortie, there is much more to the 'Red Eagles' than meets the eye. This is their story. lender Posted January 26, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 26, 2009 Riapro la discussione sulla scia di quella in corso sul SU-34; qualcuno ha notizie referenziate sull'acquisizione da parte USA di Flanker (data per scontata quella di Mig-29 e Mig-25 sotto forma di prede belliche o per gentile concessione dei nuovi alleati) o di altri aerei rispetto a quelli già noti (mig-21, mig-23...)? Aggiungerei che conoscendo il potenziale del nemico, si siano sempre regolati bene nei progetti che si sono susseguiti: serie dieci docet (F-14,F-15,F-16 ecc...).
