fabio-22raptor

Quote Scientists looking anew at a 2017 North Korean nuclear test discovered that the explosion was likely about two-thirds more powerful than U.S. officials previously thought. Earlier data put the yield somewhere between 30 and 300 kilotons; the U.S. intelligence community said 140 kilotons. That was already the most powerful device tested by North Korea, topping a 2016 test by about an order of magnitude. But a new look at seismological data suggests that the blast was between 148 and 328 kilotons, and probably around 250 kilotons. That’s the conclusion from a group of researchers from the University of California, Santa Cruz; the Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica; and elsewhere, as published Monday in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth (*). ... defenseone.com ... Cita The Biden Administration has economically sanctioned five individual North Koreans, a Russian national, and a Russian company in response to six missile tests conducted by Pyongyang since September, which the Administration says violate U.N. Security Council resolutions. The sanctioned individuals are based in China and Russia. The test of a hypersonic missile on Jan. 11 is “further evidence” that North Korea “continues to advance prohibited programs despite the international community’s calls for diplomacy and denuclearization,” said Brian Nelson, undersecretary of the treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, in a statement for the press (*). ... airforcemag.com ... https://www.airforcemag.com/us-imposes-sanctions-north-korean-missile-tests/ ... TT-1 Pinto
Cosa è veramente avvenuto il 10 Gennaio? Cita At around the same time North Korea said it fired off a hypersonic weapon, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop order for air traffic operating in the Western U.S. and Hawaii. This was likely no coincidence, according to The War Zone ... https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/43859/mysterious-faa-order-to-halt-flights-was-prompted-by-incoming-north-korean-missile-warning ... Both the overall duration of North Korea’s missile test and the grounding and subsequent resumption of U.S. flights occurred along the same timeline, the publication reported. The War Zone reported that multiple pilot reports and radio communications from that day mention a “national security issue” as the reason for the temporary ground stop. According to the War Zone, just before 2:30 pm PST on Jan. 10, North Korea test-launched a hypersonic missile eastward towards Japan and the U.S. By no later than 2:32 pm PST, ground stop orders were issued for Anchorage, Seattle, Oakland, and Los Angeles. Air traffic control messaging acquired by The War Zone indicated that NORAD advised of a missile launch from North Korea impacting air space from the Aleutian Islands south to Los Angeles. ... airforcetimes.com ... https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2022/01/13/did-the-military-prepare-to-shoot-down-a-north-korean-missile-from-the-west-coast/ ... TT-1 Pinto
Cita North Korea confirmed Monday it test-launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of reaching the U.S. territory of Guam, the North’s most significant weapon launch in years, as Washington plans steps to show its commitment to its Asian allies. Sunday’s launch could be a prelude to bigger provocations by North Korea such as nuclear and long-range missile tests that pose a direct threat to the U.S. mainland, as the North tries to further pressure the Biden administration to win sanction relief or international recognition as a legitimate nuclear state. The official Korean Central News Agency said the purpose of the test was verifying the overall accuracy of the Hwasong-12 missile that is being deployed in its military. KCNA published two sets of combination photos — one showing the missile rising from a launcher and soaring into space and the other showing North Korea and nearby areas that it said were photographed from space by a camera installed at the missile’s warhead. The Associated Press decided not to use the images because the authenticity of the photos couldn’t be verified. ... militarytimes.com ... https://www.militarytimes.com/flashpoints/2022/01/31/n-korea-confirms-test-of-missile-capable-of-striking-us-bases-in-guam/ ... TT-1 Pinto
Cita U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has intensified its intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance efforts and increased its ballistic missile defense readiness in response to North Korea’s tests of a new ICBM system, the Pentagon announced March 10. According to a statement from Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby (*), the North Koreans conducted a pair of tests Feb. 26 and March 4 of the new intercontinental ballistic missile system known as Hwasong-16, which North Korea first revealed in an October 2020 military parade. “The purpose of these tests, which did not demonstrate ICBM range, was likely to evaluate this new system before conducting a test at full range in the future, potentially disguised as a space launch,” Kirby’s statement read. ... airforcemag.com ... https://www.airforcemag.com/north-korea-has-tested-new-icbm-system-pentagon-reveals/ ... TT-1 Pinto
Cita North Korea fired what is thought to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) toward the sea off its east coast on Thursday, militaries in South Korea and Japan said. It would be the first full-capability launch of the nuclear-armed state's largest missiles since 2017, and represent a major escalation in the North's development of weapons potentially able to deliver nuclear warheads anywhere in the United States. TT-1 Pinto
Cita In a March 24 Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) questioned U.S. Northern Command boss Gen. Glen D. VanHerck about his capacity to protect the homeland from a North Korean strike, citing “analysis of the flight path” showing that the missile could hit America. “I’m comfortable with where we are today, based on the intelligence I have, with the current capabilities and capacity of North Korea,” VanHerck said. “Going forward, I do believe they could exceed my capacity and capabilities. That’s why it’s crucial to keep Next-Generation Interceptor on time or early. In my discussions with [Missile Defense Agency Director Vice Adm. Jon A. Hill], he’s confident right now that they’re on that path.” --- --- --- “I am very concerned about my ability to pace the capacity of production that we assess and the capability that we assess the North Koreans continue to adapt to,” VanHerck said. “That’s why the funding for the service life extension program for the current ballistic missile defense capability is so crucial. Thank you for that funding. And that’s why Next-Generation Interceptor is crucial as well, because it will help both get after the additional capacity problems and the capability problems.” Cita The United States needs to deploy its Next Generation Interceptor by 2028 or sooner to keep pace with North Korea’s accelerating ballistic missile program, most recently demonstrated in Pyongyang’s successful test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile Thursday, Air Force Gen. Glen VanHerck told the Senate Armed Services Committee. While saying he was “comfortable with where we are today based on the intelligence I have,” the commander of U.S. Northern Command said “going forward, I do believe that [the North Koreans] could exceed my capacity and capabilities.” Thursday’s ICBM test was North Korea’s first since 2017, but the 12th missile test this year. ... news.usni.org ... https://news.usni.org/2022/03/25/northcom-u-s-needs-new-ballistic-missile-interceptor-by-2028-to-keep-pace-with-north-korea ...
