Tornado GR4 RAF precipita a Kandahar

Oggi 20 luglio, un Tornado GR4 (variante inglese aggiornata dell'IDS) è precipitato nei pressi della base aerea di Kandahar.

I due piloti si sono ejettati con successo riportando lesioni lievi.

I Tornado GR4 del 12 Sqn della RAF hanno assunto appena da questo mese il compito CAS svolto in precedenza per 5 anni dal 1 Sqn sugli Harrier GR9 della Joint Force Harrier Organization.

 

L'aereo è precipitato poco dopo il decollo nei pressi di Kandahar, pur essendo ignote la cause è tuttavia escluso che esse dipendano da attività bellica da parte dei ribelli talebani.

 

L'incidente del Tornado è il terzo occorso negli ultimi 3 giorni nella base NATO di Kandahar. Il 19 luglio infatti un Mil Mi-8 da trasporto Afghano è precipitato uccidendo 16 persone.

 

Il giorno prima ancora un F-15E USAF dello 336th Fighter Squadron (basato a Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina) è precipitato nei pressi di Kandahar uccidendo i due membri dell'equipaggio. Come per il Tornado della RAF è stata già avviata una inchiesta, ma le autorità USA escludono che l'aereo sia precipitato a causa di fuoco ostile.

 

Insomma, questi 3 giorni non saranno ricordati in modo positivo per il comando NATO della base aerea afghana...

Spiace sopratutto per i piloti americani e per gli occupanti del Mil Afghano, fortunatamente almeno gli Inglesi si sono salvati.

F-15E crew perishes in Afghanistan crash

 

7/18/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNS) -- Two Air Force officers were killed July 18 in the crash of an F-15E Strike Eagle. The aircraft, assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., was flying in support of coalition operations in eastern Afghanistan (Ghazni Province).

. The crash occurred at approximately 3:15 A.M. Kabul time.

 

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones...and to the Airmen and the joint and coalition team members who called them friends and will miss their fellow warriors," said Lt. Gen. Gary North, U.S. Air Forces Central commander.

 

A team of U.S. and coalition forces immediately responded to the crash site, secured it and recovered the Airmen.

 

Notification of the officers' next of kin is ongoing, and the names have not yet been released, consistent with Department of Defense policy.

 

The Airmen will be returned to their families through a dignified transfer from Afghanistan to the United States.

 

The crash was not due to hostile fire. A board of officers will be convened to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.

quindi se ho capito bene è certo che non sia stato abbattuto da forze ostili ma non si sanno bene le cuse giusto?
