Se volete saperne di più leggetevi l'articolo : 1st Eurofighter with PIRATE IRST Radar Delivered to Italian Air Force Aug. 2nd, 2007 1st Eurofighter with PIRATE IRST Radar Delivered to Italian Air Force The first Eurofighter Typhoon with on board the radar PIRATE- IRST designed and produced by Galileo Avionica, a Finmeccanica Company, was delivered to the Italian Aeronautica Militare. The aircraft is part of the Tanche 1 batch 5 of the international programme Eurofighter and is operational at the Grosseto base, in Tuscany. The PIRATE performs the same tasks of a radar, working in a passive mode, without electromagnetic radiations, detecting instead the heat of the different targets. A very important feature that increases the overall performances of a combat aircraft, offering the tactical superiority of a complete operability in Stealth (technologies allowing the aircraft to be undetectable). Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, the PIRATE (Passive Infra-Red Airborne Tracking Equipment) combines the functionalities of a IRST and the ones of a FLIR (Foward Looking Infra-Red). The PIRATE is compact enough to install the electronics inside the aircraft, while the searching head of the sensor emerges on the left nose in front of the windshield. Galileo Avionica is prime contractor of the EuroFirst Consortium which features Thales in the UK and Tecnobit in Spain. In 2006, the Consortium was awarded with a contract to supply 200 PIRATE systems for the Tranche 2 of the Eurofighter in the various nations involved. The value for Galileo Avionica of the programme, which includes Tranche 2 and Tranche 1, is around 200 million euros. Combining its experience and leadership in electro-optical and firing systems, with the knowledge acquired in the development of the PIRATE, Galileo Avionica has developed a commercial version of the PIRATE, named IRST-C for other fighters requiring the same technologies for passive tracking of the targets. Galileo Avionica has also developed a Naval version of the IRST which is the SASS (Silent Acquisition Surveillance System) installed for a session of trials on board the EURO Fregate and which will equip the unit of the Italian Navy, Cavour. SASS has also been selected for the Italian fregates in the frame of the Franco Italian programme FREMM.
  6. Allies agree on Strategic Airlift Capability initiative 20TH JUNE 2007 NATO Allies agreed today to set up a new NATO agency to acquire and manage C-17 strategic transport aircraft on behalf of a group of 15 NATO nations and two Partnership for Peace countries. Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer welcomed the decision. “The Strategic Airlift Capability initiative will help address NATO’s -- and Europe’s -- critical shortfall in strategic airlift. This capability will support our current operations, including in Afghanistan, and will be a pillar of the Alliance’s long-term transformation.” The Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) initiative was first announced in September 2006, and hailed at the November 2006 NATO Summit in Riga. Strategic airlift has been a long-standing critical shortfall for the NATO Alliance. At the Riga summit, NATO Heads of State and Governments noted the need for “forces that are fully deployable, sustainable and interoperable and the means to deploy them.” They also endorsed several initiatives to increase strategic airlift, including the SAC, the Strategic Airlift Interim Solution (SALIS), and offers to coordinate support structures for A-400M strategic airlift, which 7 Allies are planning to acquire beginning in 2010. SAC aircraft will be flown by multinational aircrews; a multinational military structure will be created to command and control the aircraft. The 17 SAC nations will fly the planes based on their national requirements, which may include national, NATO, or EU operations, as well as other international purposes such as humanitarian airlift or disaster relief for the UN. In today’s decision, the Alliance formally approved the establishment of a NATO Airlift Management Organization (NAMO) and NATO Airlift Management Agency (NAMA) to acquire and support the aircraft. The SAC plans to acquire 3-4 C-17s; the first is expected to be delivered in mid-2008. The SAC planes will be configured in a similar way as the C-17s flown by the US Air Force, Canadian Air Force and the UK Royal Air Force. The air crews will be trained to the same basic standards, including air-to-air refueling and night vision operations. The following NATO nations are members of the Strategic Airlift Capability initiative: Bulgaria , Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, United States, Sweden and Finland, both Partnership for Peace Countries, are also SAC Members. Membership in the airlift fleet remains open to other nations.

After refueling the aircraft was in a climb back to altitude, when it entered a huge thunderstorm with clouds well above 45,000 ft. Both engines flamed out and unable to save the aircraft both USAF Pilot/ RSO: Maj. William Lawson/ Maj. Glibert Martinez ejected safely. 978/ #2029 Lost on 20 July 1972 at Kadena AB, Okinawa. Attemping to land with a severe crosswind, USAF PIlot: Capt. Dennis Bush had to abort the landing after deploying the braking chute. He jettisoned the chute and went around and attempted to land again, without the chute. The second attempt was too fast and the SR went off the end of the runway, ripping off the main landing gear and causing considerable damage to the underside of the aircraft. The RSO: Capt. James Fagg and pilot survived safely. This aircraft was known as "Rapid Rabbit". They tried to destroy the aircraft by burning it, but were not successful, it was buried near the end of the runway in a small hill, now known as Habu Mtn.

    SR-71 IN IRAN

Amir Retired Iranian F-4 pilot Local: Fri, Aug 3 2007 1:12 pm Subject: SR-71 flight over Iran It was in hot days of the 1993 summer, we were in our airbase, south of Iran, that suddenly our base reported a scramble, I got prepared very soon and flied with an F-4E for battle with this unknown aircraft,I reached the mentioned altitude and went on recognition, we didn't know which kind of aircraft it was, it didn't reply to our messages, suddenly it increased its speed unbelievably,so inhesitately I went on high speed, but it had no advantage because it increased its speed more and more as if it disappeared on my radar screen, in fact I couldn't get higher speed and catch up with it. So I got radio contact with our 2 F-14 tomcats which in flight 50 miles away, F-14 crew told me they have an unknown aircraft on their radar but it moves like a missile, veryfast. One of F-14s went for recognition and dogfight, I was experienced in airwars and I had many battles with fighters during 8 years war with Iraq but I hadn't such case so far. I was thinking that suddenly F-14 pilot shouted" wow, that's an SR-71 blackbird", I surprised, an SR-71!!? It passed F-14 but our tomcat turned back and for locking on it, meanwhile they were closing to our international borders, finally F-14 got radar lock on in it which AIM-54 was waiting for it,but it was too late because it had passed our border and got into Pakistan. SU-30 V/S TYPHOON

Susate l'inglese al momento non ho tempo, se qualcuno volesse contribuire traducendo... RAF Eurofighter Typhoons and IAF Su-30 MKIs First-Ever Aerial Combat Indian Ministry of Defence | Jul 10, 2007 Much was at stake of its reputation, when for the first-time-ever, the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoon, developed by a consortium of European manufacturers and recently inducted into the RAF, was to engage in any kind of an aerial combat with any non-RAF/NATO fighter. The Indian Air Force's (IAF) Sukhoi-30 MKI air superiority fighters, which are at Waddington, UK for the bilateral air 'Exercise Indradhanush-2007', had an opponent for the befitting duel. The operational part of the 'Exercise Indradhanush-2007' began with a series of 1 vs 1 air combat sorties. Both variants landed with their much-touted reputations intact as each side tested their potentials with their adversary in the air to their limits. These sorties were premised not entirely on having winners or losers – but more for their evaluator and training values as encapsulated in the objectives. Both sides ended-up sharing an enhanced respect for each other's capabilities – both in terms of training values, and combat potentials of the diverse aerial platforms. While the RAF fielded some of their most-experienced and highly-qualified pilots, some of them being very senior performance evaluators in active service, the IAF pilots were a mix of 'young to middle-level pilots' from the 'Rhinos' squadron. The RAF pilots were candid in their admission of the Su-30 MKI's observed superior manouevring in the air, just as they had studied, prepared and anticipated. The IAF pilots on their part were also visibly impressed by the Typhoon's agility in the air. While it does not imply to say that the 1 vs 1 air combat sorties were meant for backslapping each other, it may be understood that in today's aerial combat scenarios of 'beyond visual range' (BVR) capabilities of air platforms, it is highly unlikely that any of the modern-day fighters will ever get into a situation that warrants extreme close air combat, as in the situation simulated in the 1 vs 1 sorties. With a 'kill' criterion of front-gun ranges being mostly under 1,000 metres and a visual tracking envelope behind the target for only up to a 60-degree cone mostly for most fighter aircraft of the world, the unlikely scenario gets more exemplified. But the irony also lies in the fact that while there is a number of counter and counter-counter measures to make the modern missiles with claims of inescapable parameters redundant by using 'chaff' and other active/passive measures, a 'gun kill' is invariably a most certain kill. The pilots invariably begin honing their tracking and combat skills under such close combat situations. The exercise that nearly runs into midway by the weekend constitutes mostly mixed missions where RAF F3 Tornados, Hawks and Typhoons are packed together with IAF Su-30 MKIs. The sorties include combat situations of 2 vs 1, 2 vs 2 and upward combinations. The raiders are tasked 'High Value Asset' (HVA) busting on the ground and 'High Value Airborne Asset' (HVAA) busting in the air with the defensive elements designated to counter their ambitions.
