Sviluppo interessante.

Sicureamente le possibili applicazioni sono infinite, ma sarà interessante vedere le applicazioni militari.

Non è per dire... ma a me sembra tanto quella che viene usata da Google Earth o Google Maps.

Se è così allora esiste già da molto tempo. Quelle che sono sui Satelliti... no?

No, non sto dicendo che hanno ricopiato quella dei Satelliti.

Dico solo che comparo la qualità di quelle immagini con le immagini scattate dai Satelliti.

E per questo dicevo anche che non mi sembrava una grossa innovazione.

DARPA Successfully Tests Gigapixel-class Camera

 

This is an image of a gigapixel camera currently being developed by DARPA’s Advanced Wide FOV Architectures for Image Reconstruction and Exploitation (AWARE) program. As part of the program, DARPA successfully tested cameras with 1.4 and 0.96 gigapixel resolution at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. The gigapixel cameras combine 100-150 small cameras with a spherical objective lens. Local aberration correction and focus in the small cameras enable extremely high resolution shots with smaller system volume and less distortion than traditional wide field lens systems. The DARPA effort hopes to produce resolution up to 10 and 50 gigapixels—much higher resolution than the human eye can see. Analogous to a parallel-processor supercomputer, the AWARE camera design uses parallel multi-scale micro cameras to form a wide field panoramic image.

DARPA Tests Gigapixel Cameras

 

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency could be a step closer to its long-term goal of building cameras that would provide better resolution than the human eye and allow analysts to zoom in great detail around images.

DARPA’s goal under the AWARE program is to supply dismounted soldiers with the best possible imagery, whether through finer resolution or multi-band imaging. As with all things military, there is also a focus on reducing size, weight, required power and cost.

Ideally, AWARE systems will increase the possible distance for identifying targets, improve day and night visibility, and replace multiple rifle sights with a single day/night sensor, according to DARPA. Other applications of improved imaging technology will affect “targeting, persistent surveillance, sensing, and imaging with color fusion.”
