VC10 and TriStar Support Operations
Royal Air Force VC10 and TriStar air-to-air refuelling aircraft from RAF Brize Norton supported overnight operations (March 19) against targets in Libya, as part of the enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1973. They accompanied RAF Tornado GR4 fast jets from RAF Marham that struck Libyans air defences, in the longest strike mission since the Black Buck operations during the Falklands conflict.
Wing Commander Kevin Brookes, officer commanding 101 Squadron, which flies the VC10 refuelling aircraft, took part in the operation. He said: "Today went very well. We had great support from Brize Norton today from all the departments that get us away from home base. It worked very well. Everybody pulled together, and it's been a fantastic and successful day for us."
