US Air Force takes next step in LRSO programme ....

The US Air Force (USAF) is moving forward with the development of a nuclear-capable long-range standoff (LRSO) missiles, announcing it is conducting market research to identity companies that could help build the weapons.

The government has invited interested industry members to attend an “industry day” on 31 October to provide feedback on the USAF’s LRSO acquisition strategy, according to a request for sources posted on FedBizOpps.gov.

LRSO .... IOC intorno al 2030 ....

USA's LRSO missile may reach IOC around 2030 ....

The US Air Force’s next-generation long-range stand-off (LRSO) missile will need to be operational by around 2030 if the service is to meet a deadline recently set by US legislators.
The National Defense Authorisation Act for fiscal year 2014, signed by President Obama in December, does not set a firm date, but rather requires the weapon reach initial operational capability (IOC) before retirement of the missile it will replace, the AGM-86 air launched cruise missile (ALCM).

AFA Urges Congress to Fund LRSO Missile .....
(12/15/2015)
The Air Force Association on Dec. 14 sent a letter (1) to senior leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees urging congress to “stay on track” and fund the nuclear-armed Long-Range Standoff missile, which will eventually replace the air-launched cruise missile.
“The standoff capability of the air-launched cruise missile [ALCM] is essential to the continued nuclear deterrent role of the bomber leg of the nuclear triad,” wrote AFA President Larry Spencer (2) and AFA Executive Vice President Mark Barrett (3) in the letter.
“Funding its replacement, LRSO, is particularly important given the advanced air defenses of our adversaries. Without a sustained bomber standoff capability enabled by a modern cruise missile, the bomber leg of the triad will be increasingly at risk.”
The Air Force accelerated the LRSO program by two years in its Fiscal 2016 budget request in an effort to make up for previous delays due to fiscal constraints.
However, Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh said earlier this year the Air Force had yet to decide when the LRSO will become operational, citing additional budgetary limitations.
