La Florida investe in Aerion Supersonic...

Quote

Space Florida is pleased to announce it has finalized a multi-million-dollar investment in Aerion Supersonic to accelerate the hiring of employees and development of the company’s new state-of-the-art campus – Aerion Park – in Melbourne, Florida.
A new development which will be powered by clean energy, Aerion Park will incorporate a new global headquarters and integrated campus for research, design, production and support of the company’s supersonic aircraft.
The new project represents a multi-year investment that is expected to generate at least 675 jobs in Florida by 2026.

Boom Supersonic was awarded a contract by the US Air Force (USAF) on September 8 to explore options for a supersonic executive transport aircraft, which could be employed by the service.
The Denver-based start-up has been granted a contract by the USAF under its programme designed to help fund innovations with future military aircraft.
The company is currently working to produce the world’s fastest airliner - the Overture - which is scheduled to fly this decade and is due to enter operational civil service by 2030.
The agreement will fund explorations of an Overture configuration designed for Air Force executive transports.
The US Department of Defense (DoD) and the air force manage all air transport for executive branch top leadership, including Air Force One.

Boom Supersonic ... siamo al rollout del dimostratore XB-1 ...

Quote

Boom Supersonic on Wednesday staged an online rollout ceremony for its one-third scale XB-1 demonstrator, scheduled to make its first flight sometime next year.
Powered by three General Electric J85-15 turbofans, the composite-bodied XB-1 will fly up to Mach 2.2 ahead of the planned introduction of the Overture supersonic airliner, expected to make its own first flight in 2025.
Boom expects the XB-1 to demonstrate technologies planned for the 55-seat Overture such as carbon-fiber composite construction, computer-optimized high-efficiency aerodynamics, and supersonic propulsion systems.

La FAA ha annunciato le nuove regole ...

Quote

The FAA took another step toward facilitating the development of civil supersonic aircraft with the release of a final rule today that clarifies procedures for obtaining special flight authorizations for flight testing beyond Mach 1.
Adopted largely as proposed in June 2019, the final rule outlines the information needed for applications of special flight authorization and designates the FAA program office that will process those applications.
It also creates a more “user-friendly” format, the agency said.
The rule further recognizes that supersonic flight testing could be used to gather noise data.
However, the rule does not lift the ban on supersonic flight over land.
Nor does it represent a policy change; instead, the rule streamlines and simplifies access to the various information necessary for special flight authorizations.

Aerion Finishes Wind Tunnel Tests Of Its Future Supersonic Aircraft

  • Carbon neutral emissions from the very first flight onwards.
  • 100 million trees planted by 2036.
  • Aircraft run on 100% sustainable aviation fuels (leading to an 80% net carbon reduction).
  • Extensive carbon offsetting program at no cost to customers.
  • Reduction in noise pollution through “boomless” supersonic flight.

Ma come andrà? Riflessioni...

Aerion Supersonic ... va oltre il supersonico ...

Quote

Aerion Supersonic, which has indicated plans to explore hypersonic aircraft possibilities, is taking a step in that direction under an agreement with NASA to jointly study “high-Mach” aircraft, the company announced today (*)
The Space Act Agreement, the third between Aerion Supersonic and NASA, will involve researching propulsion and thermal management technologies for a future generation of commercial aircraft that could operate near hypersonic speeds—between Mach 3 and Mach 5.
The latest agreement expands a collaboration between Aerion and NASA that dates back to 2012.

Quote

Aerion is taking the next step in its quest for a family of supersonic jets, revealing on Monday the initial details for its second aircraft - the 50-passenger, Mach 4-plus AS3.
Fuller details of the airliner companion to its AS2 Mach 1.4 business jet are anticipated later this year, Aerion said, but sketched out a goal of reaching near-hypersonic speeds and a 7,000-nm range for the AS3.
The aircraft is anticipated to fly before the end of the decade, the company projected, adding that it will build on the AS2 that is anticipated to be in service by then.
