Blue Sky Posted May 25, 2008 Author Report Share Posted May 25, 2008 "Strange Cargo" was a B-29A s/n 44-27300 assigned to the 509th Composite Group (VH), 393rd Bomb Squadron at North Field, Tinian from May 1945 until October 1945. Painted on FB-111A 69-6508. 'Next Objective' was B-29 A s/n 44-27299 from the 509th Composite Group (VH). Assigned to FB-111A 68-0257 until replaced by a/c 68-0284 in 1987. Another version of "Next Objective" painted on an FB-111A from the 509th BMW. "Tiger Lil" originated on B-29A s/n 44-27303 from the 509th Composite Group (VH) in 1945. Personally selected by Col. Jack Pledger for his aircraft, 67-7193 as the 393rd Bomb Squadron Commander's aircraft. "Sleepy Time Gal" was a B-24H s/n 42-0749 assigned to the 392nd Bomb Group (H), 577th Bomb Squadron at Raf Wendling from August 1943 to May 1945. Painted on FB-111A 69-6507. Guest galland Posted May 25, 2008 Report Share Posted May 25, 2008 Gli "assembly ship" furono velivoli da bombardamento che, troppo usurati per continuare l'impiego bellico, servivano come punto di riferimento per riunire le formazioni che, provenienti da varie basi, si dirigevano verso la Germania per le grandi missioni di bombardamento. Privi d'armamento difensivo e dotati di apparati radio più potenti, terminata la loro funzione di radio fari tornavano alle basi di partenza. A tal fine vennero trasformati numerosi B24 Liberator. Si può reperire qualche immagine di tali coloratissimi apparecchi? Grazie! PS: in "Profili di aerei militari della II Guerra Mondiale" Fratelli Fabbri Editori è mostrata la vista laterale di uno di tali apparecchi; si tratta di un B24D, dipinto completamente di marrone, con grandi cerchi gialli bobati di rosso, derive bianche!
