Territorial Army (TA) soldiers are in Italy

 

The new training exercise with the Italian Army, known as Ex Roman Star, follows this month's Government announcement on troop reductions, and a greater reliance on reserve soldiers to integrate with the regular Army.

 

It is the first of a series of new overseas exercises for the reserves, who will need to increase their numbers to meet the demands of the Army 2020 structure to reshape the Service.

 

Reservists from 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (4 YORKS) are the first to undertake the exercise which, on this occasion, will train them how to prepare for and execute an attack on a property occupied by enemy forces.

Esercitazione Roman Star 2012

 

Si è conclusa presso l'area addestrativa "Cellina-Meduna" (PN), l'esercitazione "Roman Star 2012", condotta dall'Esercito Britannico in cooperazione con l'Esercito Italiano

L'Esercitazione ha visto come principali attori sul terreno gli uomini del 4° Reggimento britannico "Yorkshire" e del 66° Reggimento aeromobile "Friuli", supportati da elicotteri da trasporto e da combattimento del 5° Reggimento aviazione dell'Esercito "Rigel".

L'attività, durata 3 giorni, si è conclusa con un trasporto tattico della compagnia britannica a bordo degli elicotteri AB 412 dell'Esercito Italiano, mentre la zona delle operazioni, a similitudine di quanto avviene in teatro operativo, era pattugliata da elicotteri A-129 "Mangusta".

Simulators to help guard against CBRN threats

 

UK manufacturer Argon Electronics has supplied the new systems, including instrumentation and simulation software, to the Defence Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centre at Winterbourne Gunner on Salisbury Plain.

The Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation's CBRN protection leader, Phil Strudley, said:

"Acquisition of this latest equipment is an important step for the CBRN training centre, providing our trainers with a range of sophisticated tools that allow us to simulate a wide range of threat scenarios."

UK and French troops increase interoperability

 

British and French airborne forces took part this week in an exercise to simulate how they would plan and execute a joint mission.

Following the announcement of a Defence Co-operation Treaty between the two countries in 2010, exercises have been taking place in both the UK and France to increase the standard of interoperability for the future.

Exercise Citadel Guibert, which took place in Reims, France, was a key stepping stone in developing the relationship between 16 Air Assault Brigade and 11e Brigade Parachutiste (11e BP), which is at the forefront of closer military co-operation between Britain and France.

Both brigades provide their armies' rapid reaction forces, held at high readiness to deploy on operations anywhere in the world. They have been tasked to develop an Intermediate Combined Joint Expeditionary Force (i-CJEF) for contingency operations, ranging from disaster relief to war-fighting, which is due to be ready to deploy from Spring 2013.
