Honeywell signed an agreement with the US Army to demonstrate a more-powerful variant of its T55 turboshaft on the Boeing CH-47F Chinook heavy lift helicopter.
The T55-GA-714C engine generates 6,000hp (4474kW), a 25% increase in power compared to the current T55 that is on the twined-engined CH-47, Honeywell says on 4 June (*)
The engine also burns 10% less fuel.
The company claims the new variant of the T55 would also be easier to maintain and have lower operating costs as a result of modifications.

https://aerospace.honeywell.com/content/dam/aero/en-us/documents/learn/products/engines/brochures/N61-1492-000-000-T55TurboshaftEngine_bro.pdf?download=true

The force increase is confirmed by the Australian Department of Defence, according to Australian Defence Magazine (*)
The report also suggests that 10 of the RSAF’s 16 new CH-47Fs will be deployed there.
The RSAF’s first CH-47F was photographed conducting flight tests in the U.S. in late July.
Deliveries of the Chinooks, and of the new Airbus H225Ms also on order, were delayed from late 2020 to early 2021 due to Covid-19 related issues.

Chinook wins out in German heavy-lift helicopter contest ...
By Dominic Perry - 1 June 2022 ...

Germany intends to acquire 60 Boeing CH-47 Chinooks for a long-running effort to replace the elderly Sikorsky CH-53G helicopters operated by its air force.
Defence minister Christine Lambrecht disclosed the selection of the Chinook in a speech to German lawmakers on 1 June.
However, parliamentarians must still approve the purchase.
Germany’s defence ministry says the decision is “strengthening our ability to co-operate with Europe”.
It describes the tandem-rotor CH-47 as “modern, proven and already being used by NATO partners”.
Aside from the USA, NATO allies operating the Chinook include Canada, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and the UK.
Selection of the CH-47 is a blow for rival Lockheed Martin, which had been offering the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion for the heavy-lift helicopter contest.
Germany currently operates a total of 80 CH-53G/GA/GS helicopters delivered in the early 1970s, according to Cirium fleets data.
The new helicopters will be acquired via the USA’s Foreign Military Sales process.
German industry will nonetheless be involved in the sustainment and in-country modification of the rotorcraft, including Airbus Helicopters, which in March signed a memorandum of understanding with Boeing relating to the project.
Other members of the Chinook Deutschland Industry Team include AERO-Bildung, CAE, ESG Elektroniksystem-und Logistik, Honeywell Aerospace, Lufthansa Technik, and Rolls-Royce Deutschland.
Berlin has been attempting to replace the CH-53G fleet for the best part of a decade, including a bungled previous procurement which was cancelled in September 2020 due to cost errors.
A German court ruled last December that the termination of that effort was legal, clearing the way for the current contest.

Cita

The Army has grounded the entirety of its CH-47 Chinook helicopter fleet “out of an abundance of caution” after an undisclosed number of recent engine fires, the service confirmed Tuesday evening.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the move to shut down the Boeing-made fleet.
No deaths or injuries occurred due to the fires.
In a statement emailed to Army Times, Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith attributed the issue to fuel leaks.
She indicated that the service has “identified the root cause” of the leaks and “is implementing corrective measures to resolve this issue.”
