lo UAV " supersonico da alta quota " non si capisce la struttura dell'impianto motore che per ordigni di quel tipo, dovrebbe essere un misto di razzi ( per la partenza ) più un ramjet ( per la crociera ); dov'è la presa d'aria ? Un veicolo di quel tipo dovrebbe, inoltre , imbarcare molto carburante e quindi essere grosso, se lo si vuole strategico altrimenti un supersonico sulle brevi distanze serve a poco;

https://www.portaledifesa.it/index~phppag,3_id,3246.html

OPINION: Communist party shows Cold War is back ...

Source: Flight International - October 04, 2019

Beijing’s vast parade on 1 October, celebrating 70 years of Communist Party rule, again underlined – as if there was any doubt – its dream of military domination in the Asia-Pacific.
The intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), cruise missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles, unmanned combat air vehicles (UCAVs), and swarms of combat aircraft and helicopters jarred somewhat with President Xi Jinping’s remarks about peaceful development – not to mention the continued riots in Hong Kong.
But ignore Xi’s platitudes and the message is clear: China means to dominate its near seas through airpower and a massive array of precision missiles.
All this is backed by an increasingly powerful, and mobile, nuclear deterrent centred on the new DF-41 ICBM.
Though the parade was largely for domestic consumption, weapons designations were clearly labeled for Western viewers: DF-41, DF-26, GJ-11, JL-2, and the DF-17 hypersonic glide vehicle.
Similar to how defence experts of yesteryear were certain that every Soviet capability ever to appear in public was a devastating one, today’s legion of online pundits rushed to assume that everything Beijing showed off both works and has been deployed.
While the GJ-11 Sharp Sword UCAV first flew in 2015, the example carted on a parade float lacked key details and looked like a mock-up.
One up-close observer said the special forces gyrocopters in the parade looked “amateurish”.
Were there really missiles in all those containers?
Has China really cracked the secrets of hypersonic flight?

Despite the considerable questions, it is impossible not to take all this kit seriously, and the expansionist intent behind it.
Welcome back, Cold War.

Quote

The U.S. will no longer remain on the sidelines when China uses “gangster tactics” to get its way in territorial disputes in the South China Sea, a senior State Department official said on Tuesday.
Speaking at an online forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, David Stillwell, assistant secretary of state for East Asia and the Pacific, said if Beijing continues to block Philippine access to fishing waters in Scarborough Shoal or militarize outcroppings there, the United States would regard those as “a dangerous move.”
Four years ago, an international arbitration panel ruled against China and said Scarborough Shoals belonged to the Philippines.
Beijing ignored the ruling, calling it “a piece of paper,” Stillwell said.

Mar Cinese Meridionale ... la controversia fra Cina e Stati Uniti prosegue ...

Quote

Chinese officials are pushing back against the U.S. statement contesting Beijing’s claims to the South China Sea, while other nations in the region are attempting to stay out of the public conflict between the two nations.
On Monday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a formal statement rejecting China’s claims to much of the offshore resources in the South China Sea as unlawful and accused Beijing of coercing its neighbors.
“We are making clear: Beijing’s claims to offshore resources across most of the South China Sea are completely unlawful, as is its campaign of bullying to control them,” he said.

With an endurance of 12 hours, the AG600 is able to depart from the Chinese military base in Hainan Island and reach anywhere in contested areas or its reclaimed bases in the South China Sea for resupply missions or maritime patrol.
Ships would require around a week to navigate from Hainan to the southernmost point of China’s areas of interest.
The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 117,700 pounds (53.6 tonnes) and is about 11 percent larger than the Shinmaywa US-1A and more than twice the size of the Canadair CL-215.
Meanwhile, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has responded to a series of requirements for the latest amphibious carrier for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), unofficially known as the Type 076.
Some items, including an electromagnetic aircraft launch system (EMALS) and a 30-tonne aircraft elevator, suggest that the Chinese are planning to place fixed-wing aircraft on their amphibious assault ships.

Quote

China is making substantial progress in improving its armed forces, now eclipsing the U.S. in the areas of shipbuilding, missiles, and air defenses, according to the Pentagon’s 20th annual assessment of the People’s Republic of China’s military power.
The Defense Department’s annual report, which is usually released in January, says China is spending about $200 billion a year on its military, a 6.2 percent increase from last year.
The rate of growth of its Gross Domestic Product has declined from nine percent 10 years ago to six percent today, yet China’s defense spending has nearly doubled over the last decade.
Most of that spending goes to equipment and readiness, versus the U.S., which spends nearly two-thirds of its military budget on pay, pensions, and healthcare for service members.
China’s costs for new equipment are also substantially lower than comparable expenditures by the U.S., especially since China pays less for labor and profit and acquires much technology through “licit and illicit means” overseas, the DOD said.
China’s stated plan is to have a “world-class” military by 2049.

If China ... ??

Quote

If China invaded Taiwan, how would it play out on the Internet and mobile devices?
How could the U.S. Air Force use that public information to the military’s benefit?
It’s a 21st-century dilemma the service is beginning to understand.
Over the course of four weeks in late August and early September, Airmen in the 16th Air Force information warfare organization explored how to mine social media and other forms of public information to address an undisclosed scenario involving China and Taiwan.
They used a toolkit built by Virginia-based BlackHorse Solutions that was paid for by the Air Force Warfighting Integration Capability team, a group based at the Pentagon that studies how the service should be structured and what tools it needs to fight in the future.

La Cina divulga un video ...

Pacific Air Forces is pushing back against a Chinese military propaganda video depicting an H-6K bomber targeting Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, calling it attempted intimidation in the region.
The video, released Sept. 19, shows the bombers flying alongside fighter aircraft, and firing a missile at a Google Maps-style picture of Andersen’s flight line.
“It is yet another example of their use of propaganda in an attempt to coerce and intimidate the region,” PACAF said in a Sept. 23 statement.
“Maintaining the safety of our personnel and resources, as well as our allies and partners, is of the utmost importance and we remain committed to ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific for all nations.”

Terre rare ... Ordine Esecutivo del Presidente degli Stati Uniti ...

Quote

Our dependence on one country, the People’s Republic of China (China), for multiple critical minerals is particularly concerning.
The United States now imports 80 percent of its rare earth elements directly from China, with portions of the remainder indirectly sourced from China through other countries.
In the 1980s, the United States produced more of these elements than any other country in the world, but China used aggressive economic practices to strategically flood the global market for rare earth elements and displace its competitors.
Since gaining this advantage, China has exploited its position in the rare earth elements market by coercing industries that rely on these elements to locate their facilities, intellectual property, and technology in China.
For instance, multiple companies were forced to add factory capacity in China after it suspended exports of processed rare earth elements to Japan in 2010, threatening that country’s industrial and defense sectors and disrupting rare earth elements prices worldwide.

Corsa agli armamenti e propaganda ...

Quote

The progress of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in modernizing and expanding its arsenal will continue over the upcoming year after an unsettling 2020 in which recently developed equipment played major roles in protecting Chinese people from COVID-19, safeguarding national sovereignty and development interests in regions like the China-India border, the South China Sea and the Taiwan Straits.
China's third aircraft carrier, a newly developed frigate with integrated electric propulsion system, aircraft carrier-based stealth fighter jets and more could make their first appearances in 2021, military observers predict.
With China setting the centennial goal by 2027 for its military in November, urging it to modernize military theories, organizations, personnel and weapons and equipment, analysts said there is no doubt that China will continue to develop new, world-class weapons for years to come.

Quote

The U.S. military needs to quickly deploy more anti-ship missiles capable of targeting invading forces heading to Taiwan, and ensure American assets within range of Chinese missiles are sufficiently dispersed or hardened against a preemptive strike.
At least that’s the recommendation made by Thomas Shugart, a former U.S. Navy submarine commander, during a Feb. 18 hearing held by the congressional U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
Shugart, who is now an adjunct senior fellow with the Defense Program at the Center for a New American Security, also said during his testimony (*) that the U.S. and Taiwan should “visibly” prepare for a protracted conflict in the event that China attacks the self-ruled island of Taiwan, which China considers as a rogue province and has vowed to take it back by force if necessary.
