Affected by the structure of the outer duct, the diameter of the tail rotor is limited, the damping is too small, and the vertical and hovering action efficiency is not as good as that of the ordinary tail rotor design. At the same time, the duct structure also meets the same requirements, and the total weight of the tail rotor structure is larger. Generally speaking, helicopters with large gross weight and large main rotor torque should not use ducted tail rotors. There is a saying that ducted tail rotors are better for designs with less than 6 tons.

Therefore, ducted tail rotors are almost invisible on large and medium-sized helicopters, and the several helicopters mentioned above are basically light helicopters.
