KC 46 e KC 767 AMI quali problemi?

Messaggi raccomandati

http://www.aereimilitari.org/forum/topic/6759-kc-767-vs-kc-30-a330-mrtt/?p=321893

Under a deal announced Wednesday, the Air Force will accept the first KC-46A tanker ready for operational duty in October, with the balance of the first 18 contractually obligated aircraft to be delivered by April of next year.
The announcement puts firm dates to a plan that had been in flux, as Boeing missed delivering the first tanker by the original target of last summer.
Recently, the company said it would deliver the first jet by the end of this year, while the Air Force said by its reckoning the milestone wouldn't happen until next spring or summer.
In May, the service refused to accept any KC-46 deliveries because of deficiencies in its boom refueling system.
The Air Force did not say whether the boom issue has been resolved to its satisfaction.

:whistling:

An unresolved software flaw won’t delay the first delivery of the Boeing KC-46A tanker after the US Federal Aviation Administration approved a temporary exemption from safety requirements.
Boeing’s engineers discovered earlier this year that the KC-46A lacks an independent system to monitor fuel flow, as required by the FAA’s safety regulations.
If a single processor fails while the KC-46A is receiving fuel from another tanker, an overpressure event in the centre fuel tank may go undetected, according to Boeing’s nearly four-month old request for a temporary exemption.
On 2 August, the FAA approved Boeing’s exemption from the safety requirement, allowing the aircraft to be used on operational flights as scheduled after October.

AMC Opens Competition for First KC-46 Pilots ...

The Air Force is beginning the process to pick the operational pilots who will fly the next-generation tanker.
Air Mobility Command announced Tuesday it will conduct a KC-46 Pilot Selection Board later this fall, aiming to pick about 104 pilots for the first two operational Pegasus squadrons at McConnell AFB, Kan.
AMC is calling on pilots with a broad range of experience, especially those in their first and second flying assignments to fill the 344th and 349th Air Refueling Squadrons, along with staff positions in the 22nd Air Refueling Wing, according to an AMC release (*)
Additionally, AMC wants pilots with experience in non-mobility aircraft, specifically the RC-135 Rivet Joint, E-3 Sentry, and E-8C JSTARS.
Packages are due by Sept. 7, according to AMC.
The Air Force expects to accept delivery of the first KC-46 in October, with 17 more by next spring.

The U.S. Air Force has added two new technical issues to the KC-46 tanker’s list of problems, potentially throwing a wrench into the projected delivery of the first tanker in October.
The service confirmed to Defense News on Sept. 17 that both deficiencies are category-1, the most serious designation of technical problems, and revolve around the tanker’s refueling boom system.
At this point, the Air Force is unsure whether the two problems will be solved in time for KC-46 manufacturer Boeing to deliver the first tanker next month, said Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek.
“Boeing and the program office are still reviewing the test data and assessing the risk and potential solutions to these deficiencies, and proceeding in parallel to aircraft delivery,” she said in a statement.

A Boeing KC-46 Pegasus tanker landed overseas for the first time, stopping at Yokota AB, Japan, on Oct. 23 local time, as part of an “Integrated System Evaluation” test, the Air Force acknowledged Wednesday.
It was the last overseas visit on a trip that started at Edwards AFB, Calif., with an interim stop at Hickam AFB, Hawaii.
After Yokota, the jet will fly to Seattle, Wash., to continue testing.

The Air Force will not receive its first KC-46 this month as originally expected, while the program office and Boeing are still working to address five “category one” deficiencies that still need to be remedied, the head of Air Mobility Command said Friday.
The Air Force had long expected to receive its first KC-46 at McConnell AFB, Kan., this month, but Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said earlier this month that Boeing would not meet that deadline.
AMC boss Gen. Maryanne Miller told reporters on Friday that McConnell is standing ready to receive the aircraft, but there is still work to be done by Boeing to address five category one deficiencies plaguing the aircraft’s boom system.

Omega Aerial Refueling Services (*) is considering buying new aircraft and pulling old ones out of storage in order to meet the US Air Force's interest in adding commercial tanker services.
Omega's stated interest in expanding its fleet of aircraft comes after Lockheed Martin and Airbus announced on 4 December that they would team up to offer tanker services to the US Department of Defense.
Both companies are responding to a June request for information from the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), which stated that it had 20,000-30,000h per year that is not being supported by aerial refuelling service.

Quote

As personnel at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas await the arrival of the installation’s - and U.S. Air Force’s - first Boeing KC-46A Pegasus tanker/transport, those who will instruct crews on the aircraft are finalizing their training plans for them.
Trainers from McConnell and FlightSafety International recently demonstrated to the media the loading of cargo aboard a 117-foot (35.6-meters) full-scale mock-up of the KC-46’s fuselage at the base’s Fuselage Training Facility.
The $6.4 million KC-46 fuselage mock-up was manufactured by Aircrew Training in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and has a functional cargo door, rollers on the floor, smoke barriers, and egress equipment such as an inflatable emergency slide. Providing training with a mock fuselage will “save wear and tear on the KC-46 airplane,” said 1st Lieutenant Daniel de La Fe, public affairs officer for the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell.
“We want to make sure this holds up and the aircraft holds up.”

Quote

Boeing won’t be delivering the first KC-46 tanker to the Air Force in 2018 as planned, due to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ surprise ouster from the Pentagon, a source told Defense News on Monday.
The Air Force had intended to accept the first KC-46 by the end of December and was awaiting signature from Mattis, which would finalize the delivery plans, Reuters first reported on Dec. 20.
However, later that day, Mattis announced that he would step down from the top Defense Department post in February, and just three days later, President Donald Trump tweeted that Mattis would wrap up his work as secretary of defense by the end of 2018.
