Canada ... 'Team Spartan' presenta ricorso ...

 

Just when the Royal Canadian Air Force thought it could put a 14-year acquisition process to bed, Team Spartan has challenged the fixed-wing search and rescue (FWSAR) award to Airbus Defence & Space.

Team Spartan filed a 6 January application for judicial review before the Federal Court challenging the Public Services and Procurement Canada’s award decision, according to a 23 February Team Spartan press release.

During the protracted competition, Airbus had pitted their C295 turboprop against Leonardo’s C-27J Spartan.

Brazilian-based Embraer also put forth its KC-390 twinjet and Lockheed Martin ultimately backed out of its HC-130J proposal.

The Royal Australian Air Force is gradually increasing the capabilities of its new Alenia C-27J Spartan tactical transports, and looking at options for training crews and upgrading aircraft systems.

The C-27J in RAAF service made its debut at this year’s air show.

The RAAF has received four aircraft, and will have its full fleet of 10 by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

Air Commodore Richard Lennon, who heads the RAAF’s Air Mobility Group, says the C-27J’s ability to accommodate aircraft cargo containers was a key aspect in the aircraft’s selection.

During operations near the front lilnes, containers can be unloaded from a Boeing C-17 or Lockheed Martin C-130J and transferred to the smaller C-27J without the need for repacking.

The C-27J can then operate to more austere airfields that are not easily accessed by the larger types.

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) on March 16 awarded a contract worth approximately $4 million to Leonardo SpA of Rome for engineering services related to missionization of the Coast Guard’s C-27J Spartan medium range surveillance aircraft.

Missionization refers to the process of integrating specialized equipment to expand the aircraft’s capabilities and enhance their ability to carry out Coast Guard missions.

Under the contract, Leonardo will provide mission system engineering and design support.

The Coast Guard deployed C-27J Spartans – its newest medium range surveillance aircraft – to assist in relief following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

The HC-27J Asset Project Office (APO) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, deployed two C-27Js in response to Hurricane Harvey Aug. 28 to Sept. 4.

During this time, the aircraft flew just under 50 hours and completed 31 sorties, transporting approximately 210 people and 75,000 pounds of cargo.

Air Station Sacramento, California, also deployed a C-27J with Pacific Strike Team and Sacramento personnel aboard Aug. 28.

The aircraft carried an all-terrain vehicle, rescue skiffs, pollution response equipment and medical supplies to Mobile, Alabama.

The HC-27J APO also deployed a C-27J to Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico to aid in Irma relief efforts Sept. 8-13.

La Guardia Costiera degli Stati Uniti comunica .....

The HC-27J Asset Project Office (APO) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, took custody of the Coast Guard’s 14th and final C-27J, CGNR 2705, Spartan medium range surveillance aircraft Oct. 19.

All of the service’s C-27Js have now undergone regeneration from storage.

In 2013, Congress directed the U.S. Air Force to transfer 14 C-27Js to the Coast Guard.

Thirteen Spartans, including CGNR 2705, underwent a regeneration process involving inspection, verification and repair completed by the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.

The APO also received a C-27J that underwent other work to prepare it for operations from vendor storage.

Leonardo will from 2019 deliver its C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter in a new baseline configuration featuring updated avionics and winglets as standard.

Flight tests of the modernised variant are due to begin later this year, with the modifications in 2017 having passed the critical design review milestone.

Although the Italian airframer began flight trials of the winglets in 2015 (*), it has only just revealed its progress on the project.

The Royal Australian Air Force has received its tenth and final Alenia C-27J Spartan tactical transport.

“The Spartan provides flexibility to defence operations, allowing us to land at airfields that are smaller or unsuitable for our much larger transport aircraft like the [Lockheed Martin] C-130J Hercules and [boeing] C-17A Globemaster,” says defence minister Marise Payne (*).

Tre per il Kenia ...

Leonardo ha confermato la fornitura al Kenya di 3 velivoli da trasporto tattico C-27J SPARTAN e di un numero non precisato di elicotteri AW-139. 
Per quanto riguarda il C-27J, il Kenya sarà il primo cliente a ricevere il velivolo con le winglet e con la nuova suite avionica, e con ulteriori modifiche che rendono il C-27J più efficiente ed operativamente meno costoso.
