comuqnue sulla nuova base di INS Kadaba ho dato un'occhiata su google heart non sembra molto grande?! o sbaglio?!

Ecco alcuni dati su INS Kadamba Naval Base, India, tieni presente che è ancora in via di svulippo.

INS Kadamba is India's third functional naval base after those in Mumbai and Visakhapatnam.

...

Project Seabird is being developed on a 4,480ha area of land, of which only 400ha is being used for construction while the remaining will be used for afforestation. The second phase of the project is scheduled to start in 2012 and is due for completion by 2017-18.

Phase II will include a new naval air station, a naval research institute, a transmission station, a naval weapon yard and additional berthing facilities for 50 naval vessels. The new naval air station will comprise a 6,000ft runway. The state government of Karnataka and the Airports Authority of India are in discussions with the Ministry of Defence to plan for an international airport.

inoltre Strategic Significance of the Naval Base INS Kadamba

The base that has a sea front of over 26 kms and a total area of over 11,200 acres is a dream of any naval planner. The deep-water port that saw many technical innovations can easily house the entire Western Fleet and provide operational, technical and logistic support to the ships.

Come termine di paragone (stiamo parlando solo di estensione) puoi considerare:

la Naval Station Norfolk, secondo Link

Norfolk Naval Base, occupies about four miles (6 km) of waterfront space and seven miles (11 km) of pier and wharf space of the Hampton Roads peninsula known as Sewell's Point. It is the world's largest Naval Station, supporting 75 ships and 134 aircraft alongside 14 piers and 11 aircraft hangars, and houses the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces.[2] Port Services controls more than 3,100 ships' movements annually as they arrive and depart their berths.

o, in Europa la Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport

It is the largest naval base in Western Europe, and is the sole nuclear repair and refuelling facility for the Royal Navy.

...

The Royal Navy Dockyard consists of 14 dry docks (Docks Numbered 1 to 15, but there is no 13 Dock), four miles (6 km) of waterfront, 25 tidal berths, five basins and an area of 650 acres (2.6 km²)

(mini) Scudo missilistico made in India Delhi, Mumbai to get missile defence shield

Delhi and Mumbai have been chosen for the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) Ballistic Missile Defence system that can be put in place at short notice.

The detailed proposal is being prepared for final clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

The strategic planning has already begun to install the defence system in the two cities and the final proposal will be put before the government after detailed analysis of the entire project, sources said.

The sites for installing radars to track enemy missiles and storing counter-attack projectiles will be determined during the planning stage, they said, adding that these locations must have adequate stealth feature and protection against enemy sabotage.

To ensure maximum protection against air-borne threats, DRDO will put a mix of counter-attack missiles which will be able to shoot down enemy missiles both within earth's atmosphere (endo-atmospheric) and outside it (exo-atmospheric).

Gorshkov air trials to begin mid-July

The trials of the Aviation Facilities Complex onboard the Admiral Gorshkov, part of the ongoing sea trials of the carrier, are set to begin next month. These trials will test and prove the operational status of the equipment crucial for aviation operations off the carrier.

Equipment and facilities like navigational and landing aids, directional and control systems, deck lighting, arresting gear system, restraining gear (which are the equivalent of hydraulic chocks before the nose wheel and one of the main wheels, imposed before take-off) will be tested in these trials, expected to be completed over a period of three months.

...

the fighter aircraft involved in these trials will include one Russian MiG-29K (the surviving aircraft of two Russian, Low Series Production, or LSP aircraft) and a MiG-35 prototype, which was part of the Indian Air Force (IAF) tender for 126 Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA).

India Develops Malacca Strait Monitoring Base

India has completed infrastructure development work on one of the Andaman and Nicobar islands in the Indian Ocean to improve monitoring of the Malacca strait. The new base will be operated at Campbell Bay by the Indian Navy.

Named Naval Air Station Baaz, the base has been built with a longer air strip able to handle Indian Air Force transport aircraft, U.S.-built C-130Js and other smaller Russian transport aircraft.

The base will monitor the Malacca strait, through which 40 percent of the world’s oil moves on vessels from the Arabian Gulf. The Andaman and Nicobar islands also house India’s tri-command, which keeps an eye on movements of Chinese ships in the region.

Indian Navy Flight Ops Moving Forward

A MiG-29KUB two-seat naval fighter jet made the first touch-and-go landings last week on the Indian Navy aircraft carrier Vikramaditya, Sevmash shipyard said on Monday.

The ship is currently undergoing sea trials in the Barents Sea off the north coast of Russia.

The jet, piloted by navy test-pilots Col. Nikolai Diorditsa and Mikhail Belyaev, completed several approaches to the carrier and finally made a touch-and-go landing.

The Vikramaditya, formerly the Russian Navy’s Admiral Gorshkov, is to be handed over to India after the trials after a much-delayed refit.

The ship was extensively modified to undertake STOBAR (short takeoff but assisted recovery) operations with MiG-29K naval fighter aircraft, as well as receiving new air defense, communications and navigations systems.

e tenta un contrattacco Moscow Seeks New Role In Indian Defense Market

Russia used to be the biggest arms supplier to India, and a reliable one at that. But over-pricing, among other issues, led to a sharp drop in its share of the lucrative market. Now Russia intends to claw its way back to the top over formidable U.S. and European competitors.

India was the world's largest buyer of arms from outside its borders in 2011, accounting for 10% of global arms imports.

...

In talks with Indian authorities, Rogozin expressed keen interest in joint ventures for the production of cargo and passenger aircraft.

“The BrahMos missile system is a shining example of this type of cooperation,” says an Indian defense ministry official. “Joint development of the Fifth-Generation Fighter Aircraft and the Multi Transport Aircraft, as well as the licensed production in India of Su-30 aircraft and T-90 tanks, are other examples of flagship cooperation programs that are presently underway in this area.”

India has also asked Russia to start inducting the 290-km-range (180-mi.) BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles into its naval fleet. The two sides formed a joint venture to produce the supersonic cruise missile in 1998 and since then, all three wings of the Indian armed forces have ordered BrahMos for their inventory. But the Russians have ordered none as yet.

...

Nonetheless, analysts say Russia will remain India's major defense partner for the foreseeable future, given the legacy of defense cooperation and ongoing projects between the two. With increased competition for the Indian defense market, though, joint development and production of new weapon systems is likely to become a crucial factor in sustaining Indo-Russian cooperation in the coming years.

Should India Be Building Another Carrier?

Forse stanno facendo il passo più lungo della gamba?

Observers are questioning the wisdom of India’s decision to begin design work on its second homemade aircraft carrier, even as its first indigenous carrier faces more than two years of delays due to technical snags and its quest to refit a Russian-built carrier has been beset by years of delays and billions in cost overruns.

Sources said the second indigenous carrier, to be named the Vishal, will have a displacement of 65,000 tons, 25,000 tons heavier than the first indigenous carrier, called Vikrant.

A Full-Fledged Air Base in Kargil and its Implication for India

the Indian Air Force (IAF) has decided to convert the Kargil airstrip into a full-fledged air force base by 2016. The strip lies close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. The IAF is planning to operate medium, heavy-lift and combat aircrafts from Kargil in the near future.

The Kargil War of 1999 saw significant shelling and damage to the airstrip, and converting the airport into a full-fledged air base seems to be a logical response to those loses.

...

This airbase can be viewed as being tactically and strategically inutile. This is due to the fact that significant resources will be expended to eliminate the threat at the very onset of hostilities. Its proximity to the border, and the ability of planes to weave their way through the mountains and evade Indian Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) leave it with little scope for any early warning. India’s decision to squander air power advantages in response to Chinese infrastructural activity and border provocations betrays a sense of panic and paranoia within the Indian Air Force.

Inoltre, le preoccupazioni dell'India

India plans to focus on its neighbors, though remains concerned about the eurozone

the geopolitical situation in India's neighborhood will shift due to uncertainties in the global economy, chronic instability the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, and the piling on of external factors in regional politics. Demographic pressures will continue to demand change. The report also finds increased desire for economic integration and regional cooperation.

India’s First Nuclear Submarine Set for Trials

India said its first home-built nuclear submarine was set for sea trials as it detailed billion-dollar projects to arm its navy with warships, aircraft and modern weaponry.

The indigenous 6,000-ton INS Arihant (Destroyer of Enemies) was unveiled in 2009 as part of a project to construct five such vessels that would be armed with nuclear-tipped missiles and torpedoes.

Australia should tie exports to ratification of test ban treaty: Selling uranium to India could make world safer

The question of uranium exports to India has cut fissures in Australian society almost as deep as the mines from which the mineral is extracted. Nevertheless, exporting uranium to India may actually help nuclear disarmament.

It is true that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ranks among the most successful arms control agreements in history. Only three states refuse to sign (India, Israel, and Pakistan) with one withdrawn (North Korea). Yet the NPT is not an end in itself. It is a means to a much higher objective; the emancipation of humanity from the dangers of nuclear war.

The 2005 US-India nuclear deal seriously undermined the bargain inherent in the NPT. Since then, nine other countries have negotiated or are in the process of negotiating nuclear cooperation agreements with India, including four of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. This means that when it comes to exporting uranium to India, Australia is no longer a partner in a global effort, but is instead sitting isolated out in the cold. The belief that Australia should refuse uranium exports to India, however nobly intended, promises to be an unmitigated failure.

...

Australia's responsibility to promote non-proliferation transcends any individual policy, including the NPT, and must be adapted to evolving circumstances. If New Delhi commits to tying ratification of the CTBT to the US Senate, the government can truthfully tell the Australian people that our export of uranium to India has advanced global disarmament objectives.
