Acting Air Force Secretary Eric Fanning and Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh are reviewing the Air Force's responses to the second round of questions from Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) regarding the future of the A-10 fleet, service spokeswoman Maj. Toni Whaley told the Daily Report on Wednesday.

Whaley said the Air Force expects to forward the responses to Ayotte's office no later than Oct. 10.

In the meantime, Ayotte's hold on Deborah James' nomination to be the next Air Force Secretary remains in place.

Whaley said the Air Force cannot comment on the specifics of Ayotte's follow-on questions, but said there were some 20 received on Oct. 4.

Air Force officials have said they are considering divesting the A-10 fleet starting in Fiscal 2015 as a means to save money for recapitalization and modernization priorities.

Ayotte's office has said the senator's "central concern is that our troops have the close air support they need to accomplish their missions and return home safely."

She doesn't want the Air Force to "prematurely" retire the A-10s.

Air Force Global Strike Command boss Lt. Gen. James Kowalski has relieved Maj. Gen. Michael Carey of duty as 20th Air Force commander "due to a loss of trust and confidence in his leadership and judgment," announced the command on Friday.

La senatrice ha ritirato il veto ....

 

Ayotte Lifts Hold on James Nomination ....

 

Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) has released her hold on the nomination of Deborah James to be the next Air Force Secretary and said she supports James' nomination, according to Ayotte's spokeswoman Liz Johnson.

The decision to lift the hold—which Ayotte put in place on Sept 24—came following "a careful review of responses from the Air Force regarding potential plans to retire the A-10," Johnson told the Daily Report on Oct 17.

Johnson said Ayotte "remains concerned that prematurely retiring the A-10 could put our troops at risk, and she will continue to engage with the Air Force and Pentagon officials in order to ensure our ground forces have the close air support they need to accomplish their missions and return home safely."

The Senate is now on recess until Oct. 28, after which the Senate Armed Services Committee could vote on James' nomination.

Ayotte "looks forward to working with her once she is confirmed," said Johnson.

L'insistenza della senatrice Ayotte nell'esprimere le sue riserve in merito al ventilato ritiro dal servizio degli A-10 da parte dell'USAF è, se vogliamo, in un certo qual modo comprensibile in quanto il consorte (l'attuale tenente colonnello a riposo Joseph Daley) è stato a lungo pilota di "Warthog" nei reparti dell'ANG ....

Robbie Risner Dies ....

 

Retired Brig. Gen. Robinson "Robbie" Risner, who spent more than seven years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, shot down eight MiG-15s during the Korean War, and served during World War II, died on Oct. 22 in Bridgewater, Va.

He was 88 years old.

"Risner was part of that legendary group who served in three wars, built an Air Force, and gave us an enduring example of courage and mission success," wrote Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh in A True Airpower Giant, his tribute to Risner.

"I'm proud to serve in Robbie Risner's Air Force and to try and live up to his example," stated Welsh.

Born in Mammoth Spring, Ark., in 1925, Risner flew the P-38 and P-39 in Panama during the latter portion of World War II.

Recalled to active duty during the Korean War, Risner completed 108 combat missions in that conflict, downing the eight MiGs in the F-86.

On Sept. 16, 1965, the North Vietnamese shot down Risner's F-105 during a bombing mission and took him prisoner.

He endured torture and solitary confinement at the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison during his captivity.

Risner retired from the Air Force in August 1976.

Among his decorations, he received two Air Force Crosses for his heroism in Vietnam.

Risner authored the book "The Passing of the Night: Seven Years as a Prisoner of the North Vietnamese."

A statue of him is on display at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

sarebbe interessante sapere come un pilota impiegato in un teatro tutt'altro di primo piano, abbia poi abbattuto ben 8 Mig... i compagni rossi erano così scarsi o l'addestramento era di primo livello anche per le retrovie???

Le indicazioni che ti ho fornito erano molto precise .... prova a guardare meglio ....

 

Comunque .... le 8 vittorie di Risner .... con relativo inserimento nella lista degli assi .... figurano ....
