Ilyushin IL-76 Mainstay

Ciao ragazzi volevo chiedervi cosa ne pensate e soprattutto cosa sapete dell'Iliyushin IL-76 Mainstay

Io so solo che e' il sostituto del Tu-126, il quale risentiva delle interferenze date dai quattro turboelica controrotanti ,e che e' la controparte dell'E-3 Sentry (stupendo) ora quello che mi chiedo e' :che tipo di radar e strumenti vari possiede? , l'alloggio in coda e' aramato? Che altre forze aeree lo usano?infine chi e' il migliore tra l'iliyushin e il sentry ?

Bhè l'alloggio di coda come puoi vedere dalla foto che tu stesso hai postato non è armato ed è stato usato per alloggiarvi antenne ed avionica.

I russi sono stati forzati a creare un omologo del Sentry.Dato che sono partiti da una cellula di un cargo invece di un aereo di linea hanno avuto dei vantaggi e degli svantaggi.

 

In termini generali (si sa sempre poco delle capacità effettive di un Awacs,figurarsi se è russo) il Sentry è accreditato di capacità superiori per capacità,avionica e flessibilità d'uso.

The A 50 Mainstay SDRLO (Long Range Detection System) aircraft is based on a stretched Ilyushin IL-76 Transport in widespread service with Soviet Forces combined with an upgraded "Flat Jack" radar system. Developed to replace the TU-126 Moss (a variant of the Bear bomber), the Mainstay first flew in 1980 with about 40 produced by 1992. The Mainstay is not as sophisticated as its western counterpart, the E-3 Sentry, but provides Russian Fighter Regiments with an airborne control capability over both land and water. Mainstays have been used by the Russian Air Force at bases in the Kola Peninsula and for observing Allied air operations during the 1991 Gulf War from bases in Ukraine. In 1994 NATO proposed making the E-3 Sentry and the Beriev Mainstay interoperable to enable Russia to provide AEW&C support to future United Nations or coalition operations.

The aircraft's wings are high-mounted, swept-back, and tapered with blunt tips. There are four turbofan engines mounted on pylons under and extending beyond the wings’ leading edges. The fuselage is long, round and tapered to the rear with a radome on the chin. There is a saucer type radome on top of the aircraft. There is a stepped-up cockpit. The fail flats are swept-back and tapered with blunt tips high-mounted on the swept-back, tapered fin, forming a T. The aircraft can stay aloft without refueling for four to six hours and can remain airborne for another four hours with mid-air refueling. The aircraft has a maximum range of 1,800 kilometers, while the radar has a detection range of up to 800 kilometers, and can track 200 targets simultaneously.

When developing the A-50, designers carried out considerable research and development to provide the platform, fitted with a large rotating radome, with sufficient aerodynamic characteristics and stability. As a result, aerodynamic performance, stability, and controllability of the new aircraft turned out to be only slightly different from those of the baseline Il-76M aircraft. In order to increase the A-50's flight endurance, it was decided to fit the aircraft with an air-refuelling system.

The lion's share of modifications, introduced into the baseline military transport, when it was converted into the AWACS aircraft, was caused by the necessity to accommodate new avionics and other equipment, facilitating its operation. In compliance with the new role of the aircraft, the aft cargo hatch and the portside door were welded up, while every piece of transportation rigging was stripped off. The tail gun mount was replaced by the electronic equipment compartment. The satellite communications aerial fairing was mounted right in front of the wing centre section. The Shmel radar system was housed inside the fuselage, with the radar transmitter being quartered in its rear part. In order to protect the crew from microwave emissions, the rear fuselage was separated from the rest of the aircraft by a screen, while the windows were equipped with metal-coated glass. The radar aerial was fitted inside a rotating radome with a diameter of 10.2m and two metres thick. The air-intake of the equipment cooling system was housed in the tailplane root.

The Shmel radar system comprised the following components:

- a 3D Pulse-Doppler radar;

- data display equipment;

- an active interrogation-reply and command transmitting system;

- digital computer;

- IFF system;

- command and control equipment;

- communications equipment;

- datalink equipment, etc.

Operators' automated workstations were fitted with colour CRT displays, which displayed alphanumeric and panoramic data. They also displayed data on interceptors, cooperating with the AWACS aircraft.

The A-50 AWACS aircraft was operated by a crew of 15: a five-man strong flying crew and a 10-man strong mission crew, including chief operator (radar system commander), navigators, tracking operators, and flight engineers.

 

The A-50 is capable of flying for 4 hours at a 1000 km from its base at a maximum takeoff weight of 190 tons. The aircraft can theoretically be refuelled by Il-78 tankers, although flight tests showed that aerial refueling was all but impossible because the rotordome would hit turbulence from the tanker, causing severe buffeting.[2]

The A-50 can control up to 10 fighter aircraft. The Shmel radar is capable of tracking up to 50 targets simultaneously within 230 kilometers. Large targets, like surface ships, can be tracked at a distance of 400 km.

Diciamo che, partendo per essere il contraltare del Sentry, il Mainstay è stato un fallimento su tutta la linea visto che non può essere neanche chiamato AWACS, certo meglio che niente ma dimostra tutti i limiti dell'avionica Sovietica e Russa

Presentata a Ramenskoye , in occasione del salone MAKS 2013, la versione migliorata dell'AWACS Beriev A-50U .... e già si sta pensando ad un successore ....

 

Russian Air Force Shows Upgraded Awacs, and Plans New One ....

 

At MAKS 2013 the Russian air force exhibited Red 33, its second upgraded Beriev A-50U Awacs aircraft. Built in 1984, it was modernized from the A-50M standard last year and redelivered in February this year.
